Joomla is designed so that an article/component can only be edited by one person at a time to prevent conflict.  This means that for an article/component to be freed up so another person can edit it, you must click either the 'save' or 'cancel' buttons in the top right corner to exit after editing an article or component.  You must do this every time you open an article/component for editing even if you do not make any changes.  If you do not, the article/component will remain locked to your user ID and you will remain the only person who can edit it until such time as you re-enter the article/component and exit it properly.  Otherwise, the super-administrator must go in manually to unlock the article/component, and this can disrupt website functionality.
